Pilgrimage with Pilgrim Priest Anette Foged Schultz – from the Festival’s medieval church to Vær Church

Join a pilgrimage walk from the
Medieval Church at Horsens Medieval Festival to Vær Church.

In the Middle Ages, pilgrimage was a central part of religious life and
served as a ritual of reconciliation. One could walk to a pilgrimage site to
atone for a sin committed. Through the walk, one was set free to live life
again. It was a new beginning.

Over the past 20-30 years, pilgrimage has experienced a renaissance. People
from all over the world have set out to old pilgrimage sites such as
Santiago, Assisi, Trondheim, Vadstena, and Viborg. The need for reflection
and slowing down appeals to many in our world because the level of activity
and performance in our culture is so high.

In connection with Horsens Medieval Festival, you are invited to a guided
walk with pilgrimage pastor Anette Foged Schultz, who will lead the walk and
provide focus points for walking, as we walk shorter stretches in silence
along the way.

The walk is about 9 km long and follows the beautiful Nørrestrand and the
old church path to Vær Church. During the walk, Anette will give insights
into the essence of what one gains from the long pilgrimage.
The essence can be expressed in the 7 pilgrimage words: Silence, simplicity,
slowness, freedom, lack of concern, community, and spirituality.

On this walk, we slow down the pace and walk selected stretches in silence,
but there will also be opportunities to share thoughts and talk with the
other pilgrims along the way.

The walk concludes at Vær Church with a quiet meditation in the church and
the opportunity to spend time in the church in silence – followed by a shared
meal in the parish house.
